Biography
David enters the narrative as a son of Jesse, the youngest who was keeping sheep when Samuel came to Bethlehem . Samuel anointed him, and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on David from that day forward .
David became king over Judah at Hebron and later king over all Israel after the elders came to him and made a covenant with him before Yahweh . He captured Zion, brought the ark toward Jerusalem with sacrifice and rejoicing, and received the promise that Yahweh would establish his house and kingdom .
The narrative also records David's sin concerning Bathsheba and Uriah, Nathan's rebuke, and David's confession that he had sinned against Yahweh . Acts calls David a prophet when Peter speaks about his knowledge that God had sworn to set one of his descendants on his throne .
The data keeps two cited lines after David: Matthew names Solomon after David, while Luke names Nathan after David . The dispute over how Luke's line is navigated is surfaced in the disputes apparatus, not settled in this prose.
