Biography

Saul son of Kish from Benjamin was chosen after Israel asked for a king . Samuel presented him to the people at Mizpah, and the people shouted, "Long live the king" .

Saul rescued Jabesh Gilead from the Ammonites, and the kingship was renewed at Gilgal . His reign then turns through disobedience: Samuel rebuked him for the unlawful offering at Gilgal, and later announced that Yahweh had rejected him as king after the Amalek episode .

Saul pursued David after David rose in Israel's victories and became the focus of Saul's fear . Saul died after being wounded in battle with the Philistines, and his sons died with him . He belongs to Israel's monarchy history but not to the parsed line to Jesus.
