Saul

Saul son of Kish from Benjamin was chosen after Israel asked for a king 1 Samuel 9:1-10:1. Samuel presented him to the people at Mizpah, and the people shouted, "Long live the king" 1 Samuel 10:17-24.

Saul rescued Jabesh Gilead from the Ammonites, and the kingship was renewed at Gilgal 1 Samuel 11:1-15. His reign then turns through disobedience: Samuel rebuked him for the unlawful offering at Gilgal, and later announced that Yahweh had rejected him as king after the Amalek episode 1 Samuel 13:8-14 1 Samuel 15:1-29.

Saul pursued David after David rose in Israel's victories and became the focus of Saul's fear 1 Samuel 18:6-16. Saul died after being wounded in battle with the Philistines, and his sons died with him 1 Samuel 31:1-6. He belongs to Israel's monarchy history but not to the parsed line to Jesus.
