Biography

Ruth was a Moabite woman married into the family of Naomi during the days of the judges . After the deaths in that family, she clung to Naomi and pledged that Naomi's people would be her people and Naomi's God her God .

In Bethlehem, Ruth gleaned in the field of Boaz, who had heard of her loyalty to Naomi and spoke blessing over her refuge under Yahweh's wings . Naomi later directed Ruth to seek redemption through Boaz, and Boaz agreed to act if the nearer redeemer would not .

Boaz redeemed the family property and took Ruth as his wife . Their son Obed became father of Jesse, father of David, and Matthew names Ruth in the genealogy of Jesus .
