Biography

Josiah became king of Judah at 8 and reigned 31 years in Jerusalem . He did what was right in Yahweh's eyes and walked in the way of David .

During temple repairs, the book of the law was found and read to Josiah, who tore his clothes when he heard its words . He gathered Judah and Jerusalem, read the book of the covenant, and made a covenant before Yahweh .

Josiah removed vessels for Baal and Asherah from the temple, defiled idolatrous sites, removed mediums and household gods, and kept a Passover described as unlike any since the days of the judges . He died after going to meet Pharaoh Neco, and his servants carried him dead from Megiddo to Jerusalem . Matthew names Josiah before Jeconiah at the time of the Babylonian deportation .
