Biography

Hezekiah son of Ahaz began to reign over Judah at 25 and reigned 29 years in Jerusalem . He did what was right in Yahweh's eyes, removed high places, broke pillars, cut down the Asherah, and broke the bronze serpent because Israel had burned incense to it .

Assyria came against Judah in Hezekiah's reign, and the Rabshakeh mocked trust in Yahweh before Jerusalem . Hezekiah went to Yahweh's house, spread the Assyrian letter before Yahweh, and prayed for deliverance . The account reports that the angel of Yahweh struck the Assyrian camp and that the Assyrian king returned home .

When Hezekiah became sick, he prayed, received a promise of 15 more years, and was given the sign of the shadow turning back . He later showed his treasures to envoys from Babylon, and the prophet announced that the treasures and some descendants would be carried to Babylon . Matthew names Hezekiah between Ahaz and Manasseh in the genealogy of Jesus .
