Biography
Obadiah the prophet is introduced through a vision concerning Edom, with the book naming the coming humiliation of a proud nation .
The prophet Obadiah must not be confused with Obadiah who served in Ahab's house, because this Obadiah is known from the book that bears his name and from its oracle against Edom . His prophecy charges Edom with violence against Jacob and with standing aloof when strangers carried off Jerusalem's wealth .
The book ends with deliverance on Mount Zion and with the kingdom belonging to Yahweh, so the prophet's message moves from Edom's pride to Yahweh's final rule .
